Non-fiction--eh not so much. It's a nail-biting thriller that kept me immersed in a world I don't understand. Still, even though I never quite figured out who shot the sheriff, the players didn't either. Written non-technically by one of the NYTs top financial reporters, the book is full of conflict, competition, distrust and the old boy network in full play. I think this was really good. Some of the numbers and financial terms left my head spinning. Seems like Paulson and company saved our skins. Of course, many of those same cats allowed the country to get into the trouble in the first place. Having heard so many angry people complain about the policies of government over the past two + years, one would have thought what Paulson did to try to fix things would have taken place in the current administration. Though we know the ending, Sorkin somehow manages to create suspense as we wait for the house of cards that is our financial system to collapse.

This was a well researched and detailed account of the near collapse of the financial market. I'm not in finance, so there were some parts of the book that I found dry, but overall Sorkin did a good job of making the information accessible to a layperson like me. ...more
