I wanted to like this book, since I do enjoy The Daily Show. However, the book just left me with a lukewarm feeling. It was not bad; it just was not that good. Sure, it had humorous moments here and there, and I think the premise of "a handbook for aliens visiting Earth" was pretty good. But a lot of the humor seems pushed, like trying a bit too hard. This is definitely a book to skip around and browse, not one to read cover to cover. Just find your favorite parts and enjoy, skip the rest. Anoth

Meh. Big ol' meh.
I read America (The Book): A Citizen's Guide to Democracy Inaction four years ago, and was utterly disappointed in it. As I said then, I love The Daily Show, I love Jon Stewart, I love snark, I love Stephen Colbert's books (which seem exactly like the Daily Show books), but I just couldn't get in to America. And now, same with Earth. At least this one hooked me a little more, and whereas America only got one star, this one is getting two. It's definitely not something I'd ever ...more

I've enjoyed the comedy on The Daily Show, so I thought I'd give this book a try.
It's cute. I didn't roll on the floor laughing, but I did say, "Hey, you have to look at this," a couple of times. I think the main problem I had was that some of the jokes were just sophomoric, and I get plenty of that humor at work. Also, I'm a reader of novels. This doesn't read like that, so I feel like it's just natural for me to not connect with it. Intermingled within it are some precise observations. I'll gi ...more

As usual with Stewart and his host of Daily Show writers, a brilliant piece of satire that has a solid structure in the form of textbook for the intrepid alien visitor to our planet. This book is similar to America: A Guide to Democracy inAction, and delivers in much the same respect. Not necessarily a cover-to-cover read, but a great, light read on a variety of topics that are hugely entertaining. Stewart is the funniest social commentator in America today, and what makes him so good is a rapie

This book's biggest sin is being dull. I was looking forward to something funny to read, but this wasn't it. It's not horrible or anything, it's just painfully boring.
