This is a book that will engage the ancient historian and the history novice alike. The author paints wonderfully full descriptions of Hannibal's march from Spain, over the Alps and eventually to Caanae where his troops crushed a Roman army so fully that the remnants of Rome's troops, boxed in so tightly that they were unable to muster the strength or will to fight, simply waited in a queue to die.
