So many stories that still, today, are kicks in the gut. I especially dropped my mouth at the comparison between the U.S. and Germany where Germany has fines for displaying the Nazi flag, vs how we've handled the Confederate flag. The next sentence talked about the death penalty which Germany does not have because there were too many put to death needlessly during WW II.

This is an absolutely phenomenal book in so many ways and, with the unexpected emergence of racial consciousness (and awareness of state-sanctioned violence against Blacks) as a major issue in the US (and to an extent, the developed world generally) could not be more timely. If it manages to penetrate the collective consciousness, it should permanently put to rest the issue of "is it race or class?" Excellent read. The author's understandable anger is palpable throughout the book.
The Nazis actually looked to the United States as a role model for their plans to enact anti-Semitic and racist laws:
