The story of a young man who was brought up as a rising star of White Nationalism. The Godchild of David Dukes went off to college and despite his beliefs (and those who disagreed with him) became friends with a Jew with whom he shared Seder every week, a Muslim, and a young woman who helped Derek Black's awakening to the harm his beliefs caused.

What an amazing book. Saslow tells the story, as only a journalist can, of Derek's transformation from white nationalist to an advocate for equal rights. The two of them clearly show how the far right has adopted the dangerous language of white nationalism and how Donald Trump used it to become president. Feels wrong to say a book about white nationalism/racism was amazing, but it was so well written that I flew threw it. It sheds a lot of light on what's been happening, especially in the past 4 years and even helps sort out how #45 got elected into office. I'm grateful for the insight as to how minds can be changed on these toxic ideologies. Hint: heavy doses of criticism and ostracism aren't it.
