What Members Thought

Woodward writes interesting books about presidents, and as with all his books, that replay conversations he is rarely in the room for, one has to trust the accuracy of whoever is leaking to him. It's quite clear who some of these people are. And as with all legitimate reporting, we're left knowing that the president is ignorant of basic realities and emotionally immature in dealing with all serious matters. Standard Woodward fare... factual with no bells and whistles. The real deal. Woodward doesn't show partisanship - he backs up his statements with real-world facts: correspondence, writings, individual interviews, and people that were in the room at the time of a specific incident.
What is amazing to me - and scary - is that his aides, staff, his cabinet, and Congress seem to just let him do what he wants. They put no constraints on him. What they say behind his back should be said to his face. B ...more
