A colleague mentioned this (Hi DOM!) and I'm glad she did.
It's not the book I wanted to read, but it's a book I needed to read. Union is an adorable actress that I have enjoyed seeing in a few films and tv shows. And I really enjoy reading about Hollywood. The one thing that always strikes me is how hard all these people work just to have a chance to make it. Could not put this book down....I am so impressed wth her clarity, profound honesty and introspection in laying out her struggles, strengths, vulnerability as a dark/brown skinned black woman navigating life in the US, life within the black community, living and constantly navigating life within a predominantly white community and finding self and identity within her black extended family.
