I wanted so badly to like this book. Every recommendation I had of the book was "Oh my god, it was so sad, I cried!" Which in hindsight doesn't actually sound like a great recommendation and perhaps, that was why I was a bit skeptical about The Fault in Our Stars. I think anytime a writer can make you laugh out loud, multiple times, then you've got a great book in front of you. John Green is nothing if not witty. My niece urged me to read this book and I am glad that I did.

This book is about Hazel, a 16 year old with terminal cancer. Hazel loves to read and watch tons of reality TV. Her Mom forces her to attend a Cancer survivor group for teens where she meets Augustus.

This was a quick read. It was well written with a lot of good dialogue. I really enjoyed the banter between Hazel and Augustus. My only word of advice is to make sure there are tissues nearby.

I loved this book, and this is a perfect example of "sad, but not depressing" to me. That is a hard line to stay on one side of for me with entertainment. I can do sad, I can't do depressing. This book is sad, yes I cried, more than once. It is a book about cancer patients afterall. But it wasn't depressing because I enjoyed the characters so much, and it is a book about so much more than cancer. ...more
