It’s a story of two teenagers falling in love and dying of cancer.
Not the sort of book I would get near unless someone had a gun to the head of my dog, and even then I’d consider the virtues of a new puppy.
But I’d heard it was good and I have a tendency to read the first paragraph, or at least the first sentence of any book. So as I passed by the display at the Barnes and Noble I picked it up and read the first sentence. A little long, but good — good enough to get me to read the first page. I ...more

Ok, I realize that (most) teenagers are not this clever and/or witty, and that there was probably some emotional manipulation going on, but I don't care. I love this book. I do think that while I would most definitely recommend it to a young adult reader, that the true richness of the story might only come thru to a parent or to a person with more life experience than a typical kid - which is ok! Very highly recommended.

I'd give this a 3.5 star rating if possible. I think part of it was that by time I read it the thing was so overhyped that it was impossible to come in without expectations. But I felt as if I could have told you what would have happened in the story from the first twenty or so pages. I also felt like Augustus was a fairly one-dimensional character. Perhaps that's what tipped me off to the fate of he and Hazel was the way in which he was presented. I get it, they're teenagers so everyone is over

This is such a emotionally-intense book! I must admit that when I picked it up I had no idea what I will be reading. All I knew was that it'd received a good rating. After a few chapters I realized that this may not be a literacy great kind of book, plus the plot is a little... cheesy. You know, boy meets girl, girl meets boy, they have crushes on each other; your typical adolescent, puppy love. But it got a twist: everyone got cancer. I told one of my workers about this book, and he said it sou

Wonderful book. What more can be said about it that hasn't been said already?

I loved this book, and this is a perfect example of "sad, but not depressing" to me. That is a hard line to stay on one side of for me with entertainment. I can do sad, I can't do depressing. This book is sad, yes I cried, more than once. It is a book about cancer patients afterall. But it wasn't depressing because I enjoyed the characters so much, and it is a book about so much more than cancer.
