Countermeasure is the first book in a series with the same name. The authors Chris Almeida, Cecilia Aubrey have done an amazing job with their characters and settings.

Move over, James Bond. The world of today is being saved by Geeks… Well, ok… not the whole world, just this one case. And yes, it is a GEEK that plays a major part in solving it. After reading Uncharted, I just had to delve deeper into the mystery of Trevor's parents....I had a major inkling that this book was gonna be intense, but was totally unprepared as to how intense it was!
First off...sigh..I admit it...I am a geeky girl....I look for brains before brawn (if they have muscles that is okay...lol...) and Trevor delivered those in spades....It didn't take long for me to fall into Trevor's spell at all. The Summery of the novel tells it all. I start this review with a bit of truth. I have known the authors for a while now, having roleplayed with them. We met through FB, and I must admit to having enjoyed working with them. They have what all roleplayers dream of… a spectacular working relationship, this novel is proof of it.
Despite the fact that I know them, I feel that I can give an honest non biased review. I was, at first afraid to read it and not like it, so I delayed a bit. I regret having done that, now I find myself looking forward to the next book in this series, which is due out sometime in June. There is a lot of suspense, intrigue, romance, and technology in this, the first of the series, to entertain everyone. If you just cringed at the word technology…don’t. It’s all simply woven into the novel, so it doesn’t sound like a manual, and is essential to be able to tell the story. They took their time researching the stage and making things pop out and not just the scenery. These aren’t just words on paper being thrown at you, they are 3-D places being brought to life. Chris and Cecilia are most defiantly artist painting scenes for us to enjoy. Follow me into their world, which takes two normal sedate lives on a rollercoaster; twisting and turning until their work brings them together in the final crash of love.
Chris and Cecilia are an inspiration to any who want to make their dreams come true. Congrats on a job well done! This is most definitely a GOODREAD!!! *****

Countermeasure is jam-packed with intrigue and suspense, mixed with steamy chemistry. Chris Almeida and Cecilia Aubrey have given geeks everywhere an exciting romance to read. Cassandra is a strong, determined woman, while Trevor is an extremely hot computer genius. The technical jargon that is mixed in throughout the book is evenly balanced between the witty banter of the two main characters. The story and characters is wonderful, whereas the narrator was decent. The narrator tended to mix Irish dialect with American dialect during the narration and then interchanged some of the tones for the individual characters. However, it was still easy to follow along and the narrator improved as the book progressed. Mature fans of romantic suspense need to mark this book as a must-read.

This was the first audiobook that I have reviewed for this blog and I was quite happy with the overall experience. The application was easy to use and downloaded quickly. The narrator demonstrated an excellent Irish dialect and read at an even pace. I did wish he paused for just a beat longer to signify the changes in points-of-view, but overall it was setup nicely. This book was excellent and I cannot wait to read the next in the series.

So I was told to read this series by a good friend of mine. When I say “told” it was not an exaggeration, she gave me an ultimatum to read it or I would be unfriended if I didn’t. So since she had already suggested one fabulous writer and series to me I figured we had similar taste in books so I read it, and man was she spot on!

Cassandra James is a strong, beautiful and fearsome creature. She is former CIA who now works for her father’s security firm. If that doesn’t badass I don’t know what does, but that isn’t all there is to her. She’s had some rough times with her mother’s passing, her father becoming more of a drill sergeant than a father afterwards, and being shot in the line of duty. She has had to work for everything that she has and all for a slight sign of approval from her father. So while working on a case things go a little haywire and lands her right at the doorstep of Trevor Bauer.

Trevor Bauer is a computer GEEK. Ok now that that is out of the way get the automatic pic that came into your head and throw it out the window. He is a sexy geek; handsome, extremely intelligent and man who just happens to work for the NSA. He loves life but is plagued with the ghost of his parent’s disappearance.

His chance meeting with Cassandra opens his eyes and makes him realize that he needs to know more about her. Thankfully the opportunity arises and he gets his opportunity to not only help her find what was stolen and prove she is worthy but to also see they fit each perfectly.

This book has so much going for it I stayed up ALL NIGHT to finish reading it. Chris and Cecilia have written an amazing story with so much love and passion that it transcends the pages and sweeps you away. I mean seriously, how you can go wrong with a story that has mystery, intrigue, suspense, passion, love, and loss is beyond me. It has everything to keep a reader interested and on the edge of their seats, like the details of a crime scene or their ability to make you either love (Cass and Trevor) or extremely dislike (Nate) a character will leave a lasting impressions and keep you hooked throughout the rest of the series.

This book has been on my radar for a long time but I never acted on it until recently. Now I am kicking myself because I know what I was missing and I have to play catch-up on the series. A real hardship to read one book after another, right? Ha. If you like romantic suspense stories that can get your heart pumping during action scenes but also racing during the passionate love scenes, this book is for you. Countermeasure by Chris Almeida and Cecilia Aubrey is different than the drug lord, military type romantic suspense books I have read. It has more intrigue in it and I really like the balance of romance and suspense.

Countermeasure was a little slow in the beginning to me while it set the stage for the characters of Trevor Bauer and Cassandra James. However, after finishing the book I understand why that background was needed. Trevor and Cassandra live on opposite sides of the country and I couldn’t figure out how they were going to meet one another. The background provided early in the story made it all worthwhile. When Trevor and Cassandra do meet for the first time, the book takes off at a fast pace and does not leave you with a lot of time to get to know the characters’ backgrounds and explain why they react certain ways to things.

I started the book with the prequel titled Uncharted, where we get to meet Trevor’s parents before they set sail. That pulled me into the overall plot immediately and I can’t wait to find out how that ends. I am curious to know if Chris and Cecilia know how it is going to end or if they are keeping it open.

The main plot of Countermeasure is engaging. I have yet to read about anything thing like this so it was interesting to read and had me curious. Cassandra works for her father at a security agency and is hired to protect the formula for a new drug that is being produced. Trevor works for the NSA but is also searching for his parents that have been missing for years. They are each different than the typical hero and heroine you read in romance books and I think that uniqueness allows the reader to relate to them on a personal level. Their jobs and intelligence, however, are a little intimidating but that makes it fun to watch them interact with one another.

The adventure that Cassandra and Trevor find themselves on is unexpected. With Trevor’s tech skills and link back to his friend George at the NSA and Cassandra’s experience as an ex-CIA operative, they manage to retrieve what they set out for, and escape death a couple of times. Chris and Cecilia’s writing makes me feel as though I was part of the story. I wasn’t just reading about characters, I was feeling the same emotions they were and felt like I was helping them solve the puzzles (so what if my talking to them out loud didn’t change the actual story). My heart was racing in several scenes and I felt like I couldn’t put down the book or I would be leaving them in that situation. I had to get past it first.

In addition to the adrenaline filled action scenes, the intimate scenes between Trevor and Cassandra were very nicely done. I thought they fit the characters appropriately for that time in the story and based on how long they had known each other. It was a nice release (no pun intended) and break from them being on the run. Countermeasure is an engaging adventure full of intrigue and suspense as well as heart warming passion. This book... There is no word that can describe how much I enjoyed reading it!

I felt like I was one of the characters. I felt what they felt. Perhaps a gal needs more than a romp with a vampire or a werewolf. Maybe a trip on the geek side is what the doctor ordered.

Imagine my delight in getting my claws on this absolutely brilliant story of a beautiful and alluring woman and a messy haired geek. Cassandra James and Trevor Bauer meet during an investigation of a breach that occurred on Ms James' watch.
