Darn you T Baggins for making me cry on the first day of a new year. Wasn't expecting it. Should have.

Beautifully developed love story between two incarcerated men. Both Gabe and Joey have demons weighing them down.

The historical elements weren't overdone or heavy handed.

But that ending. I did not like it. Of course, it was clearly the perfect ending. But still, broke my heart.

Very emotional read.
Hard decisions being made.
Love or freedom?

I did have a pretty graphic violent scene, but there was a lot of sweetness too.

3*for Gabriel and Joey. I am really not a fan of short stories. I find them lacking in depth and cant connect with the characters. This story is no different. The idea was good but the execution was not. I wanted to be in Joey's head more. What he felt, what he thought his sexual orientation was. Also the side characters needed more depth. Gabriel was protecting two inmates but we didnt see them interact with each other besides the questions that Joey asked Lonnie.
