This book is very "special" to me. My son had Asperger's syndrome and I hope A Special Kind of Love will give readers both a wonderful love story and enlightenment about autism.
I laughed and cried when writing this story and I hope you, the reader, will do the same.

wow what a heartwarming story. Sharon moves with her autistic son for a fresh start for them both. Not only does she face the challenges facing settling her son in a new home and town, she has to deal with the reactions of people to her son. Then Tanner the local fire chief enters their lives. This is a story about differences and finding love in those differences. Aaron (the heroine Sharon's son) has Asperger's syndrome. Author Tamara Hoffa does a wonderful job describing and celebrating this boys unique personality. With sensitivity she protrays the challenges and joy of being a single parent to a child with special needs. It's 2 am and I just finished A special Kind of Love by Tamara Hoffa... I couldn't put the book down and after a few hours of shut eye, I will post a full review!

A few weeks later and I have no problems remembering the facts....

A Special Kind of Love by Tamara Hoffa belongs in a very special category of its own.

She has taken a very real condition, Asperger’s syndrome, and given it a face, Tamara took a highly misunderstood condition and wove a beautiful love story around it. A Special Kind of Love by Tamara Hoffa belongs in a very special category of its own.

She has taken a very real condition, Asperger’s syndrome, and given it a face, Tamara took a highly misunderstood condition and wove a beautiful love story around it. By the time the readers are done with this remarkable book, they will have a better understanding of children with autism and the extraordinary parents that love and raise them.

Sharon Daily and her son, Aaron leaves the big city and decides to live in the small town. Her own family has a hard time accepting her son’s Asperger’s syndrome, her ex-husband was ashamed of him. Sharon hopes a fresh start in Gaines, Wyoming, will do both her son and her some good.

Once they are settled, Sharon arranges for Aaron to have horseback riding lessons and this is where they meet Tanner West, his riding instructor. The attraction between Tanner and Sharon is almost instant and very mutual. Tanner is wonderful with Aaron, showing tremendous amount of patients.

Those scenes when the three some first meet, were heartwarming and touching. Tamara does a fantastic job of showing readers some of the symptoms of Asperger’s, from difficulty interacting socially, repeat behaviors, and clumsiness. Everything was so effortlessly woven together into the story.

In my opinion, Aaron stole the show during most of the book. If nothing else he stole my heart! Tanner was a very close second. Sharon as the mom will love her child unconditional, but Tanner, he chose to stay and love the boy.

The bonus comes at the end of the book, when Tamara throws in a bit of adventure, the kind that gets you heart pumping and you catching yourself holding your breath till you find out what happens next.

A special Kind of Love is a must read.

This book, is a very special read, with a mother giving her devotion to her son with Asperger`s Syndrome. They move to Gaines where not only do they have to settle in a new home and town, but the reactions of locals to her son, Aaron. Then arrives Tanner, an Indian, cowboy and a fireman, what more can I say? This is a very heart-warming read about acceptance and love, great read!

This is a wonderfully crafted love story on two levels. One is the romance that develops between our leading lady and man. The other is the love of a mother for her son who has Asperger`s Syndrome. I was deeply moved by this book, as a romance fan as well as a parent. I`ll be looking forward to more from Ms. Hoffa. ...more

I really liked this read for a few reasons but mostly because of the honesty and care taken with writing about Aaron. I loved him and was happy to read a book that highlighted on the challenge (and rewards) of being a parent to a child with autism. Tamara did a wonderful job with this in that it doesn't feel preachy nor did I feel like Aaron's autism was made to be a charicature or an easily exploited narrative conflict. It was all very well done.
My only complaint would be that it wasn't longer ...more

It had it all! A hot Indian, cowboy and fireman! All rolled up into one delicious man-Tanner West!

A Special Kind of Love had a solid story line. Easy to follow and immerse yourself in. Aaron and Sharon's situation will break your heart. It is all the more heart wrenching knowing that this is so true to life. I loved the story line and the willingness of the hero (and he is!) to accept Aaron into his life. Though really, Aaron steals the show!
