Great advice for anyone planning to take over the world! In all seriousness though, there's some good nuggets in this classic, and Machiavelli had a particularly realistic view of human nature. He takes a pragmatic view to leadership and largely removes morality from the picture, claiming that the Prince should be oppressive in certain circumstances and beneficent in others, whichever is most to his advantage.
