Great research, great writing, and excellent story, plucked almost literally from early 20th century headlines. I enjoyed getting to know Constance Kopp; I wanted more, but since Stewart's research is all original, there isn't much else out there. Fortunately the sequel is available at my library and a third installment is in the works.

What a fun excursion into the lives of three turn-of-the-20th-Century sisters! Constance, Norma, and Fleurette Kopp find themselves on the wrong side of a bad situation thrusting their quiet lives into chaos. Through their own spunk, ingenuity, and tenacity they turn the situation around proving their brand of smarts is just as good in town and it is on the farm.

Girl Waits with Gun by Amy STEWART
I found this book through a recommendation in Costco’s magazine, an unexpected membership bonus! This review may have a few spoilers, which I usually avoid, but not much spoilage, since the book is based on history . . . made personal w/ invented extras like homing pigeons carrying headlines back to the farm. Three intrepid sisters (or more than sisters) and a bold sheriff take on a bully mill owner — beginning with their invoice for a wrecked carriage, though i ...more

What a delightful discovery!
The true story (artistically embellished, of course) of the highly irregular Constance Kopp and her two sisters, is a wonderfully engaging romp. It is 1915 in my old stomping grounds of New Jersey, and Miss Kopp has just taken on the wealthiest family in the area. Tough as nails, Miss Kopp doesn't back down, and learns to be a detective even if she is not allowed to hold that title.

A fictional adaptation of Constance Kopp, one of the country's first female deputy sheriffs. The story was interesting and well written, although bit slow. I didn't like the fact that in addition to the historical case described, a fictional case was added. I'm willing to give a lot of leeway in historical fiction (after all it is fiction) but this seemed too much of an intrusion.

Very fun read! Well researched historical fiction relaying the story of Constance Kopp, one of the nation's first female deputy sheriffs. I'm looking forward to reading the sequel!
