I want to like this more than I did. I think, though, I’ve lost a certain amount of patience with “We can fix Major Problem X with introspection/self-change/new stories/etc.” Those things are definitely part of the solution, but all the individual journeys on the astral plane in the world alone will not improve things. I think I enjoyed it more in retrospect that I did reading, and it's impressionistic style can be difficult to parse, especially if you are reading quickly. Definitely wouldn't tell anyone *not* to read, and there's a lot to enjoy, but the prose and story was too loosely constructed for me to really get it into it.
It does have several chapters from the POV of a dog, which would be at least worth another half star if Good Reads would allow it. :) ...more
