I just recently read my first book by Siobhan Vivian, The List. The List is a story told from eight different girls points of views. It really shows socially how girls can be. The eight girls perspective's the story is told from is everyone put on the list: a list that picks the prettiest and ugliest girl in each grade. No one knows who writes it and the list ends up having a big impact on each girl’s life over the course of a few days.

The List presented a lot of struggles that girls have day t I just recently read my first book by Siobhan Vivian, The List. The List is a story told from eight different girls points of views. No one knows who writes it and the list ends up having a big impact on each girl’s life over the course of a few days.

The List presented a lot of struggles that girls have day to day. I think that some of the struggles each girl had sometimes seemed really exaggerated, but this book was definitely really interesting. Out of the eight girls, four were the “pretty ones” and the other four were the “ugly ones”. The book was spread out over the course of a few days and some characters I ended up liking more than others. I’m going to break down the characters and my opinions of every one:

Bridget: I found her story sad: how she always felt the need to be more perfect. She didn’t realize she was alienating the people around her by doing so. (junior- “pretty”)

Sarah: She never felt pretty so she accepted being ugly. She wouldn’t listen to anyone who tried to tell her differently. (junior- “ugly”)
Margot: She was really nice and worked hard for everything. (senior -“pretty”)

Jennifer: She was, by far, my least favorite character. She was so desperate for popularity that she would do whatever it took, no matter how far she went. (senior- “ugly”)

Candace: She was annoying and seemed to think she was better than everyone else. (sophomore- “ugly”)

Lauren: She was home schooled her whole left and is surprised at how quick she is accepted once she earns a spot on the list. Her mother does not like how quickly she’s changing though. (sophomore “pretty”)

Addy: She was just getting used to her newfound popularity and flaunting it. She had good intentions, but she was not the most observant of the people around her: especially her sister Fern. (freshman- “pretty”)

Danielle: She was a good person and she always stuck up for others. Her boyfriend so did not deserve her. (freshman- “ugly”)

I felt the ending of this novel was kind of incomplete. It did have a major twist, but after the twist, it ended pretty abruptly. I hope the author makes a sequel to clarify some things. Overall, this book was pretty good and realistic. I’d give it 31/2 stars out of 5.
