A couple weeks ago I was in Miami and got a chance to hear Brad Meltzer speak. He was awesome and said a lot of great things (about Neil Gaiman specifically), but the thing that stuck with me the most was this: "there are books we read, books we want to own, and books we share." I knew exactly what he meant. I read a lot. A lot. And in addition to being an avid reader, I'm also a genre jumper: YA, NA, Contemporary, horror, mystery, erotica, classics, heavy fantasy... well, um, you get the idea. ...more

I really enjoyed this. Maybe I am in that sate of being for aline invasions--like Falling Skies on TV and watching Independence Day yesterday for 4th of July. Looking forward to the second book and going to recommend this to the husband since he is a scifi fan and like Falling Skies and Defiance, and fan of Hunger Games too.

I liked it. I enjoy shifting perspectives and Cassie is pretty funny. I will say I did enjoy Zombie's POV more because his wasn't so bogged down with a kind of tired romance, and a one-sided love at first sight. I liked what was happening between Zombie and Ringer, it seemed more realistic and was given time to build. this book, with its female protagonist, is in the spirit of several other young adult dystopias (i.e. Hunger Games, Divergent). I read it as part of the mother/daughter book club for November, and it should yield interesting discussions about morality and humanity. My daughter, who will be leading the discussion, also wants to know if you're on Team Evan or Team Ben? I'm team ben. she's team evan. ...more
