Blue Sargent had forgotten how many times she’d been told that she would kill her true love.

Maggie Stiefvater’s THE RAVEN BOYS is impossible to define. It exists in contradiction. It’s dark, yet warm. Creepy, yet magical. Funny, yet somber. Truly, it’s a book that only Maggie Stiefvater could write.

To put simply, THE RAVEN BOYS is a Practical Magic x Goth Harry Potter mashup. Since birth Blue has been warned that if she were to kiss her true love, s/he would die. Blue--non-psychic--has been

Okay, so umm, Maggie Stiefvater is a genius and her writing is beautiful and she's perfect in every way, I still don't understand why I didn't enjoy this more the first time around. To be honest, it's because I wasn't ready. I didn't pay attention to every word, and every sentence, and how all of it came together to build this mysterious, magical book with brilliant, broken characters. I didn't understand the plot, but now I get it. It's insane. Of course it is. It's filled with longing and desp ...more

WOW!!! I think I read the second half with my eyes bugged out and my mouth hanging open. It did start out slow. At 40% in, I would have given it 3 stars. The second half was amazing. The characters are flawed, real and likable even when they are stubborn and frustrating. I love the cast of characters and can't wait to see where the story takes them. I can't wait to start book 2. ...more

Re-read. Loved it even more the 2nd time. The world Maggie creates with the imperfect characters and how they fit together works. I was completely drawn into their small Virginia town with a fancy private school and the outsiders. I loved how this describes the group, ”so comfortable with one another that they allowed no one else to be comfortable with them.” Nothing original there until the magic of their quest in finding the ley lines and a sleeping Welsh King gets thrown into the mix. Love Bl ...more

How the turn-tables. I wish I wrote like Maggie Stiefvater.

That was interesting...and very different. I enjoyed it. I just felt like there was some a bit off about it...I don't know, the plot wasn't truly interesting although the characters were.

Not like anything I’ve read in a while. Though I guessed at least half the “twists” it was interesting and intriguing. Writing was a mix between clever and pedestrian but I kind of liked it that way. Looking forward to the other 3.
