Luce is stuck at some private school in California, away from everyone and everything she knows. What makes this even harder is that she is also separated from Daniel and even though he tells her that she is there for her own safety, Luce doesn't know to what extent or why. She is still trying to figure out her past and what her future will be, and if that future will be with Daniel. She gains some new nephilim (half angel) friends who try to help her figure things out.
