I couldn't help but kind of root for Barron in this book. He is still pitiful and not to be trusted, but I felt sorry for him in a way I never did before. In this book Cassel finds himself between a rock and hard place. He is trying to turn his life around, be a good person and put his past behind him. He tries to figure out who he can trust. Everyone around him seems to be keeping secrets from him. His friends, his brother, the Feds. He can't get Lila out of his mind or heart and is torn about ...more

I adored this series. Honestly it's one of my favorites by her. Aside from The Cruel Prince series, I feel Cassel Sharp is one of her deepest characters. There were layers to him that I truly have never seen in her characters in other works I've read by her.

I was angry for him at his circumstances and what was being done to him. "Give the kid a break, he's trying" was my mantra throughout. I love the interpersonal relationships and character interactions. And I love the amusing, frustrating eni ...more

This is such a fun mobster/murder mystery series, with good cop and bad cop vs. criminals/the mob with the added fun twist of magic.
