This is a great sequel to the distopian novel "Matched". In "Crossed", Cassia has to leave her province in search of Ky in the outer provinces where the society is fighting the enemy, and thousands of aberrations or anomalies are killed. Altough the book doesn't say what part of America the book takes place, I'm pretty sure the Carving is southern Utah and Colorado in the Grand Canyon.
