I have wanted to read this for a few years and I don't know why I waited so long to pick it up. I really enjoyed the book and the world and magic system. I wouldn't say it was the best writing but it was her debut novel so she can only improve from this book forward. It was kind of simple and there wasn't a ton of action that happened although what was happening I really liked.

Apart from the "bad" things I list below, I thought her writing style was done well, with no egregious errors (even though I find errors in almost EVERY book, even books like Harry Potter and Fablehaven series, I did not find any error in her books, yet... I still have the other 2 to read). The end tended to wrap up a little too quickly for me as well, but I did like it and if you like fantasy I would recommend it.

Shelves: favorites, i-own-this, fantasy, ya

I read this book in two days, I was so mesmerized. Although there are some slow parts, (part 2 for example, could have had a little less walking and a little more action), I really did enjoy the book. The whole idea of Graces is something that interests me a lot, and I wish that I could learn more about them. The idea that the Gracelings are separated from society brings up this whole idea of discrimination that runs through the book, though I wish the author had delved further into it.
