I've heard about this book through book blogs and book tubers for awhile now and how much they enjoyed and definitely recommended it for anyone who enjoyed YA reads plus the premise really intrigued me with a devil and an angel falling in love and thought it would be right up my alley. I'm not sure about this one. I'm torn - the first half of the novel was pretty great. It had a bumpy start, because at first I didn't like the main character at all. I thought the author was trying just a liiittle bit too hard to make her out to be this special snowflake....and her and her best friends interactions were just too BORING. The world building in this book is awesome. The writing is poetry. So beautiful. I loved Karou, a girl raised by monsters. The romance got a lot hotter and heavier than I expected. And towards the end, I missed the characters from Karou's human life but for the most part the story was mesmerizing. And, of course, it's a trilogy so there's more awesomeness to come. 4 Stars for Daughter of Smoke & Bone.

I like the way the story flowed. Things weren't made obvious and it kept me reading to see what would happen next. We got little peeks at what was to come without everything being revealed too early.

This was my second try at this book. It was a little hard to get into mostly because there are so many crazy names that all start with K and weird descriptions of beasts all at the first of the book. But once I got through a few chapters I was sucked in. It was a fun story about Angels and demonish creatures and of course love. I'll read the next ones but it didn't leave me on such a cliffhanger that I need to pick up the next one right now. ...more
