Beautiful, evocative language and relationships, but the ending was a disappointment. 3.5/5.

The beginning of this book was enthralling and the perfect amount of grim and gore. I enjoyed the strong themes of friendship and chosen family while also seeing interconnecting relationships between the girls chosen groups at the school.
I really didn’t understand Hetty & Reese’s decision after going through all that trouble and their reaction to Headmistress when the building was breached. I was not a big fan of the ending – I don’t like cliffhangers or partial explanations. I really enjoyed ex ...more

Love the cover art, and even though this isn't really my genre, I had high hopes. It started out entertaining, but the lack of character and plot development was weird to me. I was anticipating more from the story, especially the ending. Yikes. Now that it looks like it'll be a series, I'm thinking that maybe we'll get a little deeper in book 2. However, it is unlikely that I will be reading it.
