3.5 stars

Not as well-written as Caraval; odd images, clunky wording, and altogether more rushed. Plot points were confusing and connections between them were unexplained. That being said, Legendary was much faster-paced, with more action and a more complex story. Overall it had a different feel than Caraval, less mystical and more fun.

4.5 stars. Didn’t love this as much as the first one. It didn’t feel as magical and I wasn’t as attached to the characters. But I did enjoy it a lot. I liked the world building and the additions of lore to the world to enrich it. I saw the ending coming, which was a difference from the first one which caught me off guard more than once. Nothing was had me super shook in this one like the first one. But I enjoyed myself and will read the finale. (Pun intended)

I loved Caraval and was really looking forward to Tella's story, but this book has some loose threads that left me a little confused. I hope the 3rd book in the series addresses them. Mostly, I felt that Dante was not acting like he did on the first one. Didn't he win the previous Caraval? Wasn't his sister the one that died? None of that was addressed in the 2nd book. I'm starting Finale today, and I hope my questions get answered. ...more
