Much as I love GRRM style fantasy where things are pretty dark and grim and good people die, it’s nice to have a book like this. Where it is all’s well that ends well. This was one heck of a way to end a series. And I loved every moment.

It has its flaws that I'll point out because I want to vent, but those weaknesses are far outweighed by everything else that happened in this wonderful conclusion to a series.

My favorite characters were, in this order, Manon, Lysandra, Aelin; now they are: Dorian, Manon, and the friggin' 13, followed by Aelin, Fenrys and Lysandra. Dorian is a character that grew by leaps and bounds from the beginning of the series to the end; he w I actually finished reading this book 3 days ago and it was epic. My favorite characters were, in this order, Manon, Lysandra, Aelin; now they are: Dorian, Manon, and the friggin' 13, followed by Aelin, Fenrys and Lysandra. Dorian is a character that grew by leaps and bounds from the beginning of the series to the end; he wins "most dynamic".

My vent for him is that he is such an unsung hero. Few people recognized what he'd done and could do. They had a major weapon in him that I felt they didn't use to the fullest because they had to wait for Aelin to do everything. Dorian had fire power too, and so much more. I even believe that he could have accomplished Irene's task had she taught him, as it was, he was instrumental in it working.

Siiigh...Dorian and Manon, I love them together. Love her reluctance and him not willing to make her do anything that might cage her. Both of them are leaders.

Manon and the Crochans. I will admit that tears of pride stung in my eyes when she showed up with all those Crochans following her and Aedion was like.... The Crochans came!!! Go Manon.... And the 13....Asterin in particular...their loyalty gets me every single time. I want stories about Manon, the 13 and their travels with Princeling Dorian.

Fenrys broke my heart, Aelin sticking by him was very sweet. Gavriel's last stand was well written. I felt the devastation of the war and wondered what would be left. I was right there with the characters in many places.

Everyone was willing to sacrifice their lives to save others and win for the greater good. The scenes with Maeve and Erawan and the scheming were all so delicious. One of my favorite parts, Dorian double-crossing Maeve, breaking Morath... And afterwards, Maeve simply says: Where is the king of Adarlan. We would have words with him.... 😂😂😂.

Since this was the last book in the series the author took her time, sometimes letting the characters idle which was nice for me because I love things like that. The story's almost over, and she gave me time to hang out with my friends one last time. I learned more about them and knew I would be upset if any of them didn't survive...well aside from a select few.

My next vent and it's a series vent: why is Aelin always the most important, when it is made clear, often, that she doesn't have to be. Also, some of Aelin's brilliant plans that win them battles over the course of the series always seem to come out of the blue or be overly convenient. And then there was the end with all the grand drawn out goodbyes. No one is dying or going to another dimension where you'll never see them again, Aelin. Yet, she acted like everyone she said goodbye to was on their death bed. Even Chaol seemed annoyed by the way she carried on. "We'll see each other again," he said more than once. Last beef, sometimes the writing is redundant. Many points are made over and over, to where I think hmm..the author keeps saying this because it must be a clue...and then it's not.

Other than those things, this is an over all fantastically epic series that I can't wait to reread. Last thing: I was so glad there was no Mary Sue moment with Elide. The author kept reiterating that she had no active magic...and she didn't and never busted out with any incredible power in the nick of time. Good. That would have been corny and the book would have lost a star.

Great end to a great series. I don't want it to be over, but alas. ...more
