1st time reading 9/2017 4 🌟
I was go give this book 3 stars the beginning pulled me on leaving off from where part 1 ended. But once in the middle the story dragged and dragged a bit here and there. I just was hoping for more and hoping once the tournament start maybe things would get better. It picked up a bit more. But while I gave this book 4 stars was like the last 150 pages of this book kept me glued in and I couldn't put it down. My second book reading of V. E. Schwab and I notice she pulls

Like the first one, this book continues the clever, rich, complex universe that Kell, and now Lila, preside in. I love the additional characters that we get insights into (especially Rhy, I think he's my favorite character) and the build of suspense we get as the magic competition approaches, and other parties work towards their own goals. I much preferred the second half of this book, the first half dragged a little for me. I really enjoyed the magical tournament part of this book, the descriptions of the battles alongside the political elements was quite exciting. Oh and be aware there is a cliffhanger at the end which is unusual for a Schwab book.

I loved this book!!! Ugh the competition, the angsty romance, the magic, the characters. I’ll admit a LOT of the book is super slow. But I was still intrigued through those parts. And while it was slow I didn’t find myself bored. And the whole last part just had me not able to put down the book. So good. Loved it. Ugh. Now I must stop writing this review so I can go read the last one cause I gotta know what happens.
