Charming, engrossing book. I'm not familiar with any other of Gaiman's work; I read this after seeing the movie a few months ago and loving it. While there are some dissimilarities between the book and the movie, the movie is true to most details and most certainly to the spirit of the book. In fact, it's one of the few books I have read that I think translated perhaps better to film than its original form -- but the book is still well worth reading. This modern day fairytale would be suitable for teens or adults, but not children due to the use of language and sexual content. That aside, the book is rich with fairytale elements that held me captivated.
