What Members Thought
I want to rate this book higher, I really do. I kinda wish Goodreads would do half stars, cuz I would give this one 2.5. I liked the story. I like twists on classic fairy tales, and this one fills that category. I liked seeing what might happen to villans after they are defeated. It's classic Disney, to me. Clean, fun, with a little adventure. I also liked that it is a prequel to the Disney channel movie The Descendants. That is unusual to have a movie be the sequel to a book. I think it's a cle

My star rating:
Plot: 3.5/5
Pacing: 4/5
Characters: 3.5/5
World: 4/5
Romance: N/A

I enjoyed this book and will continue on with the series. It was a tad confusing though with all of the changes Disney has made to recent fairytales such as Maleficient, to keep the fairytales straight. The book didn't have a great deal of character development, but I can see the potential for it. Also, this is marketed as middle grade, but the characters are 15-16 y.o. and there is a hint o ...more

Interesting tale of 4 kids. Mal, Jay, Carlos and Evie that are all a big disappointment to their villain parents as they all are banned into the dime of The Isle of the Lost.
They are made to be heartless no smiling never apologize be thieves and bad misfits.
A journey awaits them as Mal wants to prove to her mother the Maleficent that she can be just as evil as her mom.
Great tale I enjoyed the world but wished it was much more detailed but hey great adventure of 4 misfits trying to find their own ...more

Seeing how this book took me nearly a month to get through, I was not that impressed. I normally *love* fairy tale retellings, learning more of the story. This one just couldn't hold my interest though. It had potential, but not impressive enough writing to follow through with a great novel. And it was full of typos - I have a hard time reading books like that.
