Hype books. We all know them. The books where there's gargantuan buzz around them before they're even released, the ones where you can almost hear the breathless excitement of those who get to review them before they're released, the ones where the movie rights get snapped up for some exorbitant sum of money (seven figures in the case of this book) either before the book has been released or something like the day after it's released. And most of us have read at least one or two. This is far fro

This book hooked me early on. At first I didn't really like Laia, but I grew to love her. I thought she was weak, which is exactly what she thought of herself. She proved to both of us that she anything but weak. I loved getting to know her and watch her do anything she could to survive and save her brother. Elias was also a character I absolutely loved. Out of place in the world he is forced to live in, he excelled and watched for his chance at escape. All he wanted was to be free. He doesn't r

Wow.
I read this book in a little more than 24 hours... I have only ever accomplished that with two books (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Mockingjay), so that alone is proof enough that it was pretty awesome.

I've just finished this and I want to reread it again, and I never reread anything! This book was amazing the plot, the characters, just amazing. It had so much emotion in there especially in the last 1/3 all that violence and then those last few pages had me in tears. The pacing in this book was so good, you were just carried along wanting to know more and loving those well drawn characters. I cannot wait to dive into book two!

I would give this one 3.5 stars. I really liked the story, the writing and character development was well done. There were lots of twists and turns in the plot, some of which were predictable and some of which were not. The characters are at a point in their lives when things change, and they are making decisions that alter the course of their lives. The ending was not what I expected. It's set up well for a sequel, not sure if the author is continuing the saga. It made me consider the basic pri
