What Members Thought

I had no idea what this book was about when I started it. I listened to the audio version, and it caught my eye because it's read by Lin-Manuel Miranda. I didn't even care what the book was about. I just wanted to listen to him read it, which, by the way, is every bit as wonderful an experience as one might expect. It turns out the book itself is amazing, though. I think I had some vague idea that this would be a YA fantasy. It is YA but not so much fantasy. It's more of a gay teen romance, thou

I have considered myself extremely lucky in my reading content lately because I have picked up some truly amazing books. I am also very easy to please and read as an enjoyment and not to pick a book apart. If I did that I would drive myself nuts and I would probably not read ever again. What can I say I absolutely loved this book! The writing was incredible and I was deeply invested in these characters. There was so much going on here with topics of incarceration, family secrets, friendship, love, family, and hope.
Trigger warnings of gay bashing, murder, homophobia, violence, and vehicle accident.
When I finished this book, I was absolutely broken because I didn’t want it to end. The best news I’ve heard was that the sequel comes out in October. Read. this. Book.

I can’t believe I waited this long to read this sweet, beautiful book! As much as I loved Ari and Dante, it was their relationships with their parents that stole the show for me. It just seems so rare to find such loving, supportive families in books and, as a mom of teens, I could relate to the unconditional love the parents showed to both boys. I HIGHLY recommend this book!
