Outstanding piece.
This is one of the very best novels that I've read in the past few years. It's completely gripping. The setting and milieu are wonderfully presented. The supporting characters are endless inventive. The main character's (Marlowe) perspective on things is consistantly fascinating. The story contains great surprises all the way through to the very end. Honestly, I don't know what anyone could want more from a book than this one. It's a real dazzler.

Re-read after several years. Still love this slow, sad private eye classic. Not as witty as some of the earlier tales, but still packs some great quips in places.
