New York Christmas in RJ Scott

This is a great Christmas story, from the slow build of a romantic relationship that is long overdue, through some very angsty territory, all the way to lives being threatened, and a perfectly adorable ending. And even though Christmas isn’t really at the heart of the story, Chris and Daniel's love is the focus, it is a perfect example of the Christmas spirit. Of course, the setting of New York in December and January may have something to do with it. And even though Christmas isn’t really at the heart of the story, Chris and Daniel's love is the focus, it is a perfect example of the Christmas spirit. Of course, the setting of New York in December and January may have something to do with it. Two of my favorite scenes ere the lighting of the tree at Rockefeller center and the two guys going ice skating. The latter was hilarious!

Chris has been through hell, the man he loved having disowned and publicly humiliated him. Well, not directly, but he let the accusations Chris's previous employer made stand, which, in my opinion, is the same thing. And Chris being anything but a fighter, he slipped into depression and is still trying to deal with everything. His self-esteem is at an all-time low when Daniel, a man he used to tutor when they were in college, reappears in his life. Chris decides to take what he can get before Daniel discovers the truth and runs for the hills, and I really felt for Chris. He's a great guy and the fact he can't believe anyone would be interested in him, despite all the signals Daniel gives off, just shows the depths of his depression.

Daniel is an absolutely amazing guy. He may have been a bit of a player in college, which is an image not easily forgotten by Chris, but is deadly serious about going after Chris eleven years since they last saw each other. Daniel is also interesting because he is rich enough to never have to work a single day in his life, yet he decided to become a cop. Against his parents' wishes and advice, he knows he needs to feel useful, and keeping NYC streets safe is the best way he can think of. I only wish we'd found out more about him, he is definitely a fascinating enough character to deserve more "air time".

If you like love stories that are as romantic as they are hot, if you enjoy a book that is full of Christmas spirit and bursts at the seams with its message of hope, and if you're looking for a read that balances humor, deep emotions, and a great setting, you will probably like this novella.

The road to true love is seldom easy. There are always bumps in the road, veering off on a path that a person never thought they'd go down. But hopefully, with any luck everyone does find that special someone they were meant to be with. Whether they knew it long ago or it is new to them.
Daniel and Chris are such a couple.I was so happy they got their happy ending and I was fortunate enough to read about it. Another one of Rj's couples that I rooted for throughout the book. I always fall in love ...more

I read and reviewed this story in December 2017 but finally listened to the audiobook today. Why did I wait so long!? Sean Crisden's performance of this story is perfect. I loved the book when I read it but listening to it brought an entirely new dimension to the experience and I fell in love with it all over again.

You can't go wrong with the combination of RJ Scott and Sean Crisden!

I'm a bit late to be reading this book. I only discovered RJ Scott's books a couple of years ago and she has a huge backlist for me to catch up on. 😊

As this is one of her earlier works I was surprised in some ways that it has a lot of the same feel as her later works that I love. I say this because I know that authors often say that their craft improves over time. What I'm trying to say is that I think this book is every bit as good as her more recent books that have made me fall in love with her writing.

Chris has been dealt a confidence crushing blow – being dismissed from his teaching job at an uppity private school. He's at a real low point when Daniel comes back into his life. Chris can't believe that Daniel had feelings for him years ago and is having trouble accepting that he wants him now. Daniel's wealth just adds to Chris's feelings of inadequacy and disbelief that Daniel could want to be with someone like him.

New York Christmas had me tearing up early on. The fact that my emotions were so quickly involved while reading the book is a measure I use to gage my opinion of the story. New York Christmas hit me on a lot of levels. I felt the connection between Daniel and Chris right from the start and wanted to shake Chris to get him to wake up and realize how much Daniel cares for him.

I don't feel like there was a lot of angst in this story and a certain amount of conflict is always needed to keep things interesting. Daniel is a NYC police officer and that definitely comes into play in a big way.

RJ Scott always delivers an HEA for her guys and I will be reading her books as long as she keeps writing them for fans like me. ...more

I really loved New York Christmas. I thought Chris and Daniel were likable, caring people. I love the second chance romance. And it’s Christmas, in New York. It was easy to read and I would recommend this book.
