Ciò che più sconvolge e lascia scioccati non è l'assurdità di questa distopia, bensì proprio il fatto che non sia assurdo immaginare una realtà del genere nella contemporaneità: è perfettamente plausibile e verosimile.

So... it took me 2 months to read the first third of the novel. I realized immediately it was engaging, but complex too. It asked for some quality times.
I hate the fact that we don't know, we never really know for sure, what prompted the US to turn into the realm of Gilead. As far as we understand the Americans ruined the environment so much that the caucasian population is no longer able to have children. We don't know anything about other minorities, but I guess they didn't end well.

"Noi siamo dei contenitori, è solo il dentro dei nostri corpi che è importante. L'esterno può indurirsi e divenire rugoso, come il guscio di una noce."
Il libro è stato scritto nel 1985 ed è ambientato in un'epoca post apocalittica (o una cosa simile). Peccato che mi pare poco differente da certe situazioni che oggi troviamo in alcuni Paesi.
Senza contare che oggi sentiamo anche le stesse affermazioni (sebbene con qualche differenza) riguardo a come debba comportarsi una donna.
