This was a great book! A non-fiction book that reads as a novel, completely engaging, thought-provoking, heart-breaking at times, funny at other times, both tear- and anger-inducing. Really lets one get what the military has been through over these past 10+ years. This was second book of Helen Thorpe's I have read. Appreciated her thorough research on the llives of these 3 women soldiers involved in the Iraq war and some of them also in the Afghanistan war.
Also enjoyed the interview with her as the author and what led her to research and write about this issue.
It was enlightening to realized the end of the draft created a shortage of military and women being able to serve helped solve that problem. In addition, attitudes were unrealistic in thinking of it ...more
