Revived (Forgotten, #2) in Sophomore Reading Challenge

Thoughts/ Review:

When I first heard about Revived my thoughts were intrigue and a deep desire to pick up this book, to own it if possible. I ended up picking it up from the library and to be honest I am glad that I did. Revived was certainly not what I expected. From reading the synopsis I had different expectations of the story I was getting myself into, however revived was a fantastic story with a unique concept.

I ended up picking it up from the library and to be honest I am glad that I did. Revived was certainly not what I expected. From reading the synopsis I had different expectations of the story I was getting myself into, however revived was a fantastic story with a unique concept.

It’s safe to say that Revived was a more contemporary novel than sci-fi or dystopian which were themes that did run throughout the story, just not as strongly as I imagined. Daisy is a character that is easy to relate to, and interesting in the way that she fits with society and within her own ‘family.’ I found that her story was one of growth and acceptance and I feel that as a character when her eyes were opened she really started to question everything with maturity and Intelligence. The way she responded, even at times though it wasn’t the smartest way to react were justified and it broke my heart to see how the program affected so many lives; including Daisy’s.

Revived did suffer a case of Instant love, in the way that the relationship blossomed pretty quickly, but to me it was real and raw and it was honest. For her age and the situations that unfolded Cat let their romance unfold naturally and it was a really great experience to read. I could relate to their attraction, hell who couldn’t? Haven’t we all had that attraction to that guy in high school, or the guy at work? I myself have had the attraction to some of my friend’s brothers as well, so I thought that element was cute and I liked Matt. He was mature in his own right, even despite what he was experiencing and I think he was a great match for Daisy and the fact that there was just a one on one relationship with the two of them made for better reading in my opinion. It allowed room for character growth between the two of them and made me enjoy each character more in their own right.

Audrey was a beautiful character and her situation is real and one I have experienced only if briefly. Her own journey and part in the story was wonderfully explored and her impact on Daisy and the characters surrounding was well fleshed out and one of the best parts of the story.

The ending of this book was a kicker. I certainly was on the edge of the bed, my heart beating. A little to jumpy but excited to find out what happens. Although the ending leaves a little to be desired in regards to the program itself and what happened to the villains it makes me wonder if she plans on writing or continuing with concept or if it’s a stand alone. I would certainly recommend this if you enjoy a strong contemporary read with a little flair of Sci-Fi, but if you’re looking for a heavy Sci-Fi book then this might leave you a little stung. For me I took it how it was and enjoyed it for what is. A great, quick and well paced read that I enjoyed immensely.

Revived is a fast-paced sci-fi thriller that I couldn't put down. I'm normally not into science fiction, but the medical technology developed to bring people back from the dead is really engrossing and kept me reading until the very last page. I love a book that keeps me guessing and making predictions which Revived did over and over again. Okay it is official, I am a complete fan girl when it comes to Cat Patrick! When I read her first book Forgotten I was 95% in love. She told such a gripping, entertaining story, how could I not be. And now after reading Revived, I’m totally over the moon! Ms. Patrick has woven such an unforgettable tale of tragedy, life and death you won’t be able to put it down. Plus it doesn’t hurt that she knows how to write a really cute boy. ;-)

Revived is the story of Daisy, a 15 year old girl that is part of a secret government test group. On the outside Daisy seems to be a perfectly normal girl; but she is holding a secret. The truth is, Daisy has died, 5 times to be exact, and each time she has been brought to life by a mysterious drug called Revive. Under the cover of secrecy Daisy and her “parents” must move to a new location every time she dies causing Daisy to never really put down roots or to make any friends. Well that all changes for Daisy when they move to Omaha after her last “death” and she meets Audrey and Matt McKean. Now Daisy has people she cares about and that care about her. As things become intense in her personal life Daisy starts to realize Revive isn’t really all it claims to be and that there may be something sinister and secretive going on, more then she originally thought.

I have to say that I absolutely adored Daisy. She was this closed off girl that was never able to call a place home. Her whole life revolved around Revive and that was fine with her until she realized there was more out there. With the McKean siblings, I’ll gush about Matt shortly, Daisy was able to actually feel alive and to know what it was like to have a connection to someone. She was able to figure out what death really meant and how it affects families. She was able to open her eyes to the program that had raised her and to see it wasn’t exactly as she perceived it to be. Matt and Audrey taught Daisy what it was like to live and to be alive.

Oh Matt, where do I start with Matt. He was one of the cutest boys I’ve read in a long time. He brought out the absolute best in Daisy and helped her grow as a person. He was flawed and perfect because of those flaws and I fell head over heels in love with him. Did I hate the tendency he had to shut people out? Definitely. But that was what made him him and what helped the character to grow and mature in the end. The relationship he had with Daisy was spot on. There was a sense of naivety between them but also a sense of maturity. And the way that Matt loved his sister really warmed my heart. The dynamic between all of them was spot on and bettered the story.

Basically Cat Patrick created a great story of love, loss and finding out the truth. She did it through amazing character development and a wonderful story line. She knows how to weave all together magically and I look forward to reading more from her. ...more

I hadn’t read Cat Patrick’s first book, Forgotten, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect from Revived. But the concept sounded pretty awesome, so I gave it a shot.

And man, I am so glad I did! Revived by Cat Patrick is legit. I was surprised by how hooked I got! Revived wasn’t really something I expected to pick up and wanted to keep reading until I finished, but Daisy dug her claws in. Revived definitely has a unique concept for Y ...more

When I picked up Revived, I was expecting the book to focus on the drug, Revive, which can bring people back to life. Instead, Revived focused mostly on Daisy starting her life over once again, trying to fit in her new school, & actually succeeding in making some good friends. I’m not saying this was a bad thing, but I felt like it was pretty unexpected. Even though I pictured the book differently, I enjoyed the story Cat Patrick wrote.

I’m not saying this was a bad thing, but I felt like it was pretty unexpected. Even though I pictured the book differently, I enjoyed the story Cat Patrick wrote.

Daisy was a likeable character who I felt bad for since she never actually had any friends or a real family, but I never felt a strong connection to her. She’s accidently killed herself several times which always resulted in another move to a new town where she couldn’t make any real friends. But, finally, she moves and actually makes a couple friends!

Audrey & Matt were such great characters! I especially enjoyed reading about Audrey with her bubbly, fun personality. But, you’re going to be in store for something because Cat Patrick throws in an unbelievable twist that I would have never guessed. Plus, Matt was just too sweet! I really enjoyed reading about Matt & Daisy because you could see how much they truly loved each other, even if there were a few bumps along the road.

Oh, and Cat Patrick is going to completely blow you away with the ending. I was freaking out towards the end because I could not believe what had just happened. I had to reread the end a couple of times; I was in that much SHOCK! It was a brilliant twist that I totally did not see at all!

Cat Patrick comes up with great, unique ideas for her books. Except, I feel like the problem is that they end too soon without any sequels. There could possibly be a sequel after Revived, but I think it’s a stand-alone novel which really upsets me. (I WANT A SEQUEL!) Overall, Revived was a much more emotional read that focused less on the drug, Revive, and more about the aspects of a teenage life (with of course the mysteries that involve being a part of a secret government agency);).
