When I received this book as a present from a friend of mine and was told it was somewhat similar to Martin's A Game of Thrones I thought "Oh crap!" I never really had the patience to get through Martin's 1000 page novel, and even if this is considerably less lengthy, I thought it would be just as tedious to get through.
