This book was enjoyable an interesting read. I read James Michner's Hawaii years ago and although I can't remember any of it, I do remember that I loved it. I think it was a much better book than this. I read this for a new book club and wonder why they picked it and what will be discussed.

Rachel Kalama separated from her family as a child for Hansen’s disease and sent to the island of Moloka’i. The book follows Rachel through her life building a family and community.
I do love a book that follows a single character through the entirety of life. While the premise includes a lot that could be sad, but the book is not that. The added bonus is you get quite a bit of history of Hawaii.
