I read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn many years ago. Re-reading it for book club, I'm finding it so much more enjoyable. I see my mother and father as the children in the story. Life was hard for them growing up with immigrant parents during the turn of the century and depression. I see myself as Francie at the end leaving Brooklyn as she leave her childhood.
