This book is a hard one in many ways. Heart-wrenching and straight up scary what he goes through as a boy. If you feel nothing after reading this, you have to be fairly cold-hearted. The heartbreak of being isolated from his family, the ups and downs of loving your parents but never knowing if they love you, or worse, might want you dead. That a mother can take delight in her child's suffering ....Woah....

A hard book to read. Horrific story. It did a good job of telling the story but I wanted to know WHY. Why was this boy treated so terribly when his brothers were not. I'm moving onto the second book so I'm hoping for some of those answers. ...more

This book is not for the faint of heart. The description of cruel and unthinkable acts from a mother to son are so horrifying it turned my stomach and made me cry. It amazes me that the author is alive and able to tell the story.
