When this first came out I made it about halfway through before giving up, now I have finally read all of it and I am so glad to have done so. Brilliant. A complete and totally believable world that fits English Magic so absolutely into English history that you almost forget this is a fiction. Loved it.

It took me almost a month to finish this book and not because it's big but the story was too meh for me and the prophecies were too predictable and I got bored almost all the way through, my mistake was picking this book because I read somewhere that it was romantic, little did she know or remember that romantic fiction is not my type of romance, I'm not mad but a little bit disappointed with myself.

I get that the book is slow paced, and the footnotes probably aren't for anyone. But the magical atmosphere is extremely good and the fact that the world is masterfully build, left me awed at dozens of time.
I think this is the first book that I read about magic in old English (well, Harry Potter's basically happened in our 21st century) and I definitely will read more! ...more
