Hemingway and I don't really get on, I know he was one of the defining voices of his generation but I really don't enjoy reading him. In my experience people who do like a bit of Ernest tend to be male, with a literary bent and to consider themselves as a little beyond the pale. I started to read this book because I liked The Old Man and the Sea a lot but I hated this book.
By the end of the book the characters were developed, but I still couldn't relate to any of them.
I was able to see the world of the Lost Generation, through the words of Hemingway, but it was a pretty boring world. All of the expatriates just sat in cafes, got drunk, bashed on the Jew, and Brett had affairs with almost everyone. The plot wasn't very interesting and the book was filled with meaningles ...more
