An important and worthwhile read. I enjoyed Elizabeth and Suzette’s storylines, which were at the beginning, more so than Philomene and Emily’s later on. Although Philomene and Clement’s small part was special. The research involved on the author’s part was quite an undertaking and made for a profound story.

From page one to the last page, I found the book depressing. Parts of it were in French with no translation, while other places it was translated. Copies of document are difficult or impossible to read.

Lalita Tademy, uses her family genealogy to craft an amazing story. It will grab you and hold you until the very end. Pick it up and enjoy.
