Beautifully written however ancestor worship annoys me and the fact that Peony starved herself to death was really not good and extremely selfish. As I read it I kept hoping that the story itself had been her project and that the last chapter would find her putting it aside to marry the husband her family had chosen for her. I've read other books by Lisa See and found them very entertaining and informative. I rated this 2*. I struggled through this. I found it dragged in many places. Foot binding and the Chinese rituals were very informative, but not enough to change my idea of this book.
