I love dystopias, always have, always will, so I was excited to read Handmaid´s Tale. I got a bit disappointed though.

The story is very good, it took me in straight away. Some fragments are truly great, beautifully written.
e.g. I loved Offred´s prayer

"My God. Who Art in the Kingdom of Heaven, which is within.

I wish you would tell me Your Name, the real one I mean. But You will do as well as anything.

I wish I knew what You were up to. But whatever it is, help me to get through it, please. Though ...more

I was enraptured by this book. I know everyone does not have the same response. The universe she creates is an extreme version of what might happen if our societies values about women were taken to their extreme. What I found most interesting was that, even though it was a very extreme world she writes, I was still resonating with how women are valued in the book and where they stem from. This resulted in alternating waves of sadness and anger. I am not a reader who cares much about the technica ...more
