I've put this off for far too long. I began The Fellowship of the Ring with high expectations of course, what with its blockbuster movies and endless attention, especially now with The Hobbit about to be released soon. The beginning of the story is a bit slow, but of course, it has to give a lot of background information to set the scene, as it were. I have been reading this since May, only catching a few pages every couple of days, but I loved it. Tolkien's world is magnificent and beautiful. The only complaint I have about this series so far is that his brilliant descriptions get in the way of his characters. I have found myself making too many subjective assumptions about their motivation and emotions and thoughts. I would like to get into the heads of each individual, rather than the Fellowship as a whole.

It's an amazing journey that takes you through world full of wonder alongside friendly, brave and surprisingly realistic characters towards an amazing adventure. The book is clear, well planned and I found it quite easy to read despite all the warnings from my friends. It truly is a wonderful book.
