I actually started reading the book shortly after I watched the film back in 2012. I finished it just shy of three months and I absolutely loved it. It started a little slowly, but I think that's generally the norm for book written in that time. The historical context, while a little dry, was extremely useful and helped set the scene for the story to unwind and, eventually, explode.
