I've gotten a lot of recommendations for Dostoyevsky from friends and teachers and I've always put it off because it just never seemed the right time to get into it, since it's not exactly a light read.
But recently, having become bored out of my mind and anxious for school to start, I thought I'd give it a try. I must say I was pleasantly surprised even if I can't say I particularly loved it, but it's a great book and definitely one of the great classics.

For years I’d avoided this book, knowing it’s a Classic, but also that it’s long and likely to be tedious reading.
I found that not to be the case. It is long, but not at all tedious. While Dostoyevsky does provide extensive exposition (and I wondered if, like Dickens, he had been paid by the word), the plot and the characters drove me onward. In fact, I could barely stand to put the book down! And I can’t remember the last book I read that had such a grip on me.
