The novel Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky has well earned the title of the 'original psychological thriller'. Get into the head of a Russian murderer before and after he comits the crime. Dostoyevsky is well beyond his time in asking what leads to criminal behavior. Political issues of the day tint this book and shadow the hidden moral and ethical questions.
