This book has a great plot, but is so long winded it is a slog. It is the story of two Russians Jews right before WWI. Miri is a doctor, and her brother Vanya a physicist and they are trying to avoid conscription and capture by the Tsar's soldiers, as they fight anti antisemitism. There is a great deal about Vanya's attempts to bolster Einstein's theory of relativity, and he travels to the site of an eclipse to photograph it and prove his equations about time and space.
